This is California’s new license plate redesigned, actually it’s just one artist’s conception of it.
The artist is Stefan Bucher, who was commissioned by Fast Company to redesign California’s license plate. Originally an idea from GOOD Design, which asked “How do we solve Los Angeles quintessential problems including: “Tacos, Traffic, Ugliness, Water, Pollution, Isolation, and Acts of God, respectively.”
When I saw this new license plate design, I just thought it was too funny. The far right corner mentions, “QR contains vehicle license and registration information, as well as your credit score.” Come to think of it, maybe this won’t be far from how the future of California will look. I sure hope not. Image from Stefan Bucher.
Back in December of 2009, GOOD Design had an idea to bring artist together to solve LA’s situation. Here is what GOOD Design wrote, “The collection of people and ideas was wonderfully diverse, and offered some fun, serious, and occasionally totally outlandish things to think about as how to make LA an even better place.”
Fast Company wrote, “Stefan Bucher from Los Angeles offers a 10-digit design that expands the pool of available license plates. He loads it with personal information about the driver that is ideal for our networking culture. The frame is color-coded to distinguish political leaning, a regional mark allows for “faster stereotyping,” and he adds a QR code for a touch of edgy technology.” Read more about other states and their license plate redesign from Fast Company.
I did live in LA briefly and can really understand those “quintessential” problems, especially the pollution and traffic. As nice and sunny the place was, it was just not my kind of city. But if you want to be in show business, then it may be a good place to start. Good luck!

That’s funny, I like the question about insured.
I think it is a great idea, keeps you entertain while you get stuck in traffic. I also like the check mark about “my lack of wealth.” I’m sure the combo between, “Currently insured? UHM, sure and My lack of wealth” will keep people a distance from you.

Hi Nye,
There used to be a time when it was OK to not be insured. The insurance industry is making loads of money after the law required motorist to be insured. Otherwise have their car impounded. Not sure if it’s that way in NC too.
I agree, it would make sitting in traffic much more entertaining.

It’s the same here, and if you owed the bank, then they make you take out full coverage. Insurance here is not very expensive, my car is 6 years old and for a full coverage I only pay $400 per year. I recall that it’s very expensive in NYC, I’m sure in CA also.

Your insurance rates are good. It’s also the same if the car is not fully paid off, then you must have full coverage. We have Allstate, and the rates are decent as our driving record is pretty clean.
The latest scam coming out here is people buying used cars and finding out it’s stolen. They steal cars from California, take it to Mexico, chop up the parts, reassemble it and then sell it. Sometimes they get away with it.
