I haven’t been paying attention to singers from Australia since Kasey Chambers. So I’m always happy to come across something new. Well, at least it’s new to me.
Kate has a such a beautiful and unique voice. This song is both relevant and honest to me. Check out more of Kate’s songs .
The Last Day on Earth was first released 2009 in Australia. Kate Miller-Heidke is a singer-songwriter from Brisbane, Australia. Although classically trained, she has followed a career in alternative pop music. She is signed to Sony Australia. - source Wikipedia.
Looking forward to getting her CD soon.
This isn’t exactly new music. But new to me because I just discovered it. Mat has been writing songs and singing for some time now.
City of Black and White - This music, when listening in the middle of winter, makes a person reminisce for simpler times.
Sooner or Later - And this music is to remind us that things will get better. Mat’s songs are really good - his will be worth getting for the new year.
2012 was one of those years for me… with some memories I’d like to forget and others I will always cherish. I wish everyone a year full of peace, prosperity, and good health. - CN
We finally got some rain out here. And high winds… in the next few days all the pretty red and golden autumn leaves will be gone. Winter is just around the corner and December is here. Time just goes by too fast, best to make the most of it.
And here’s just some songs that are good for rainy days. Enjoy.
The Fray - How to Save a Life
Goo Goo Dolls - Better Days
I haven’t enjoyed new music as much as I’ve enjoyed Of Monsters and Men. All I can say is that this music makes me feel alive again.
Of Monsters and Men are an indie folk/indie pop band from Garðabær, Iceland. The band was formed in 2009 when Nanna BryndÃs Hilmarsdóttir decided to add to her solo project, Songbird.
Of Monsters And Men - King And Lionheart
Their debut album “My Head is an Animal” was released in Iceland in September 2011. I got their mp3 album . Lakehouse and Dirty Paws are some of my favorite songs.
And if you want to check them out live, find their tour dates here.
I have to agree with this Amazon reviewer J. Loudon who states this is one of the best debuts in quite some time.
More from J. Loudon, “My Head Is an Animal” is a fun record. That alone deems it worthy of a listen, but there is far more to it than mostly positive lyrics and sing-along choruses. There is also a certain musical chemistry between the members of the band that finds its way into the recording. The harmonies, not just between Nanna and Ragner but the entire band, are extraordinary.” Ditto!
Just found out about this young and talented musician from England, Helen Jane Long. Her music is beautiful and it goes well with the nature scenes.
Warners Classic and Jazz: “Helen Jane Long’s debut album ‘Porcelain’ is an expressive, inspiring and evocative collection of original compositions which cross the worlds of classical, chill out, and filmic music to create an indefinable combination of music minimalism.”
And some other nice music below.

Helen says “I don’t tend to follow any particular formula or pattern when I compose. I just play what I feel. In many ways I use composing as a form of therapy, a way of expressing thoughts and feelings without necessarily verbally communicating them….I hope that my music has a similar effect on those listening to it tooâ€.
This music would be perfect for road trips to the country side.
This one is by Prince Waldecks Galliard
RIchard Ashcroft is one of my favorite singer-songwriter from England. Born in Billinge, Lancashire, Englandon on September 11, 1971. He is best known as part of the Verve with their song “Bittersweet Symphony”.
Science of Silence.
This song is from his solo album “Human Condition”. I’m not much for music videos, but thought this one was nicely done. It has many interesting photos of New York City. is the original music video.

At the moment”The Pains of Being Pure at Heart” is one of the best new music for me is. It immediately brought me back to the late 90’s. The music is catchy, it does make me happy and nostalgic at the same time. The downside is that it sounds fuzzy like it was recorded in a basement. It may be something you catch on a lazy Sunday on college radio or the NYC indie music scene.

INFO: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart is an indie rock band started in 2007 in New York City. They consist of Kip Berman (vocals, guitar), Peggy Wang-East (vocals, keyboards), Alex Naidus (bass) and Kurt Feldman (drums).

But The Sundays will still be one of my favorite older bands. Youtube:  The Sundays -
One of my favorite singers from Australia is Casey Chambers. I don’t think she’s well known in the U.S., but I’m sure her songs are played more often in her home country. It would be neat to see her sing in a small venue in the U.S. So here’s some of my favorite songs.
Since I’m not a big fan of music videos, I don’t pay too much attention to it. I prefer to listen to music on my own time and create memories without the help of videos.
If you were lucky enough to be in Australia, Kasey Chambers did give a live show at Wilson’s Boathouse Seafood Restaurant in Brisbane. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a picture of her, maybe about 5 years ago. But here she is, sitting pretty with her guitar from the Brisbane charity performance in May of 2008.

One was the light in a candle
Two was the colour of the rain
Three was a fall in deeper
Four was a cry and shame
Five was a shiver in the winter
Six was a losing card
Seven was the hope I would never fall too hard
