Extra virgin expeller press coconut oil has become one of my new favorite oils. It’s also one of the oil that has multiple uses, from cooking to body care.  I first started to cook with this EVCO “extra virgin coconut oil” on Thanksgiving holiday.

I’ve used it in replacement of butter or sometimes when coconutoilother oils are required.  It’s especially good when mixed into mash potatoes and steam vegetables.  Also a very good mayo substitute when making tuna sandwich.

The list could really go on.  I’ve even add a little to my coffee, since my skim milk isn’t so creamy. The coconut oil really adds to the taste.

But it’s not like regular coconut oil I used for making soap. This is extra virgin expeller press coconut oil made from the fresh flesh of the coconut fruit. This brand is from Jarrows, made from organic coconuts from the Philippines.

The coconut oil is unrefined and expeller pressed without the use of chemicals or heat. This process requires a hand crank machine to squeeze out the oils from the coconut meat.  This method preserves the volatile compounds and retains a delicious coconut scent.

Coconut oil is a source of medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), such as lauric acid (C-12) and caprylic acid (C-8). These are the good stuff that is antibacterial, antiviral, and more. You can read more about it here. The coconut oil is stable even during long periods of storage.

The last face cream I made with carrot seed oil worked for a while, but I didn’t like the texture of the cream after a few weeks. Looks like it needs more improvements. So I decided to make a new face/eye cream using EVCO and also grape seed oil too.

Ingredients: organic extra virgin coconut oil, grape seed oil, rose hip oil, shea butter, beeswax, Hylauronic Acid, and CoQ10.

It’s made in small batch, no preservatives or “parabens” necessary in my cream!

Some benefits of shea butter include help with fading scars.  And it also help deal with stretch marks and uneven skin tone as well.

I’ve used it for some time and noticed my face is less drying, especially with the cold winter air. It goes on shiny at first but feels silky and sinks into the skin very well.

I’ve also noticed my skin looks very healthy and bright too. But this cream could still use some more improvements. So I will save that for another post!

The grape seed oil I used is also expeller pressed. As these are the best type of oils to apply on face and body.

I never knew that they have this, definitely need to give it a try. I think it’d be good when I make the Thai curry soup, use this to cook the meat and it’d give it a nice coconut flavor since I’m using soy milk as a coconut substitute.

  2. Hi Nye,
I think that would be a great cooking idea.

When I first open the jar, it smell so much like Lao-Thai coconut desserts filling. yummy!
