Time lapse video is so much fun to watch. The first one I ever saw and still remember was of a seed growing into a plant. And this was back in grade school. Even to this day, watching time lapse video still amazes me.

This one is one of my favorite time lapse video I’ve come across lately. I especially like the intro with the clouds and mountain, the song is fun too.

I’ve always been amazed at the Pacific salmon’s cycle of life.  After being born in the rivers, they head out to sea only to be come back again in their adulthood to spawn.  And after the purpose of laying new eggs is over, they die.

This year’s salmon run hit a record high. This is good news for all that feed on the salmon. From people and bears to other wildlife. Plant life also benefit too. To keep the cycle going, we must have healthy and clean oceans.

Reuters News reported that the last twenty years saw a decline of sockeye salmon in the Fraser River.  The reason for the bumper harvest of salmon this year remain a mystery. But Carl Waters, a fisheries expert at U.B.C. zoology’s department mentions that it coincided with a “dominant-run” year.

Every fourth year is the dominant year when the biggest run comes in. The year after that is sub-dominant. Then you get two really low runs,” Walters told Reuters.

Out of the five migratory species of Pacific salmon, the sockeye travels the farthest.

Today is opening day of the Winter Olympics 2010 held in Vancouver, B.C.  California’s governor Schwarzenegger kicked in the 106th and final day of the 28,00 mile torch relay by ending at BC Place Stadium.

And I happen to have a postcard of the stadium (from my last trip to Vancouver!).  “BC Place and Vancouver skyline at night.”  Printed by the Postcard Company.

I’m glad the city got to host the winter Olympics. Vancouver is one of my favorite cities in the world. It’s a very scenic city that’s great for people who like the outdoors, from nearby surroundings of the bay to the mountains. And the people there are always so friendly. I hope to visit Vancouver again sometime soon.

I think having a sunroom is a really neat addition to a house.  But I don’t usually see them in California, it’s probably because it doesn’t get too cold here.   But I think they are popular in England since their home magazine are always filled with sunroom retailers.  They are called conservatories over there.

This is my dream conservatory. I like the tall trees in the background, gives it more privacy. I think conservatories are also great for growing tropical plants and also to protect your other plants from the winter freeze.  This style here is a wooden interior Victorian style conservatory.  Photo from Four Seasons.

Sunroom Features:

Pre-finished aluminum exterior
Northern White Pine laminated interior beams
Energy efficient construction

* Thermally broken frames
