I first used Fullers Clay after trying Auromere’s Ayurvedic Herbomineral mud powder.
It’s scientific name is Calcium Montmorillonite. Other common names are Oil Absorption Clay, Earth Clay, Bleaching Clay and Whitening Clay.
Fuller’s Earth is a naturally occurring sedimentary clay composed mainly of alumina, silica, iron oxides, lime, magnesia, and water, in extremely variable proportions.

Fullers earth is a mineral clay found through out the world.
Fullers Earth got it’s name from the workers who processed wool. The laborers were call “fullers” and they used the clay to soak up the oil from the sheep.
It’s an interesting clay that has many industrial uses. Found in laundry detergent, kitty litter, toothpaste, as well as cosmetic uses too. But the one used for cosmetic purpose are processed differently and considered to be cosmetic grade clay.
This is a great clay for facial mask. As it helps remove toxin from your skin. Leaving your face fresh and renewed. Fullers Earth is especially great if you have acne prone or oily skin.
And since it’s a “whitening” facial clay, it would offer gentle skin lightening effect on blemishes and brown spots. It may not erase all the spots in speedy time, but it would be gentle and easier on you skin.

Once in a while I like to do a facial clay mask to “detox” my skin. I usually purchase only the jarred version that was already mixed. But soon became disappointed at the ingredients listed.
After much reading about holistic skincare, the best way to go is using pure dry clay and with the addition of natural ingredients, such as essential oils or herbs.
But if you don’t have all the clays and herbs, you can always try Auromere’s Ayurvedic Herbomineral. They call it “mud powder” and include various Ayurvedic herbs and four different types of clay; Black Clay, Yellow Clay, Red Clay and Fuller’s Earth. Clays are great as they have the ability to absorb excess oils and harmful toxins from the skin.
Auromere’s selected herbs and minerals are noted for their unique beneficial and rejuvenating qualities. It helps to purify, cleanse and stimulate the body. Leaving soft and smooth skin.
I just love Auromere’s Ayurvedic Herbomineral mud powder for it’s cleansing benefits. But I didn’t like how messy it was in the shower. So I decided, what better way then to add it to handmade soap? I’ve also added an uplifting scent from lemon essential oils. Fuller’s Earth and lemon essential oil area also used as natural skin lightener.

Auromere Ayervedic Imports started over 30 years ago. It became one of the first companies to introduce Ayurveda to the U.S. They are the leading importer of Ayervedic body care, conscious living products and literature.
The last Auromere product I tried was the handmade soaps. It was nice soap, but the neem scent was too strong for me. None the less, I still think they make great natural care products.

They offer many flavors of toothpaste. Image from Auromere.
Recently Auromere sent me a couple of their Ayurvedic products to try out. I’ve since only tried out the natural dental care stuff first.
I tried the licorice one and it reminded me of homemade toothpaste using natural clay. But this is made of fine chalk. And the taste is very much like licorice candy. I know some people don’t like mint toothpaste, so this would make a good alternative.
Next up was Auromere’s natural mouthwash made of many Indian herbs and essential oils. I was also happy to try this mouthwash after I realized how bad regular alcohol based mouthwash is for your mouth. I’ve stopped using most commercial mouthwash. Gargling with 3% hydrogen peroxide is okay, but doesn’t taste too good.
I was a bit surprise at how cooling it was (due to the mints). And the taste reminded me of strong herbal medicine. But a few seconds later it disappear and you can really taste the sweet licorice. And it’s almost too good to spit out!
It is alcohol and sulfate free with no artificial sweeteners or additives.

My soap review of today is Auromere handcrafted soap from India. Auromere Ayurvedic Imports has many beauty products from India based on Ayurvedic concepts. You can find their products in many health food stores, but it’s also available online too.

This soap is for the “VATA-PITTA” Ayurveda type.
“This formula combines 18 highly recommended Ayurvedic herbal extracts and oils used for centuries by Ayurvedic specialists in skin-care preparations. Neem, a natural emollient and antiseptic, has toning and soothing properties while Tulsi, known as the Holy Basil of India, purifies and protects the skin from environmental damage.” - Auromere
The reason I wanted to try this is because I’ve always wanted to try handmade soap with neem oil. After hearing so much good uses of this oil, I had to see for myself.
When I found neem oil at an India grocery store and gave it a sniff - the smell was so strong! It reminded me of tea tree oil (originating from Australia). I can only deal with tea tree oil if it’s mix with a minty scent.
Pukka Herbs notes, “The roots, bark, leaves and seeds all have medicinal properties and are used for a multitude of purposes; in Sanskrit it is known as sarva roga nivarini, which means ‘the curer of all ailments.”
