This is my summer flower surprise - a blooming Moss Rose. I had thought they were history after last winter’s freeze. But I was wrong!

sidewalkmossrose M first spotted the young mysterious plant in the Meyer Improved Lemon tree pot. We wondered whether we should pull it out since it’s probably weed. Then we both decided to keep it and just see what kind of plant it would become. And I’m glad we kept it, as it made for a nice surprise.

Moss Rose is just one variety of Portulaca Grandiflora. Others include Rio Rose, Samba Rose, and Yubi. You can read more from my previous post here.

The petals are really neat because it reminds me of gift wrap paper. And they come in many different bright and cheerful colors.

I’m thinking of collecting seeds from this plant so I can grow them again next year. As I think this plant was from a seed that must have found it’s way to the lemon tree pot.

What a nice surprise, the flower looks very much like the Paeonia Krinkled White but I’m sure it’s a lot smaller in size.

  2. I’ve never seen Paeonia Krinkled White, but did look it up on Google images. And I agree it does look like a mini version. Peonies are so pretty, I would like to grow them someday. :)
