Another new soap I like to introduce for March is something more floral.

It is made with goat milk and scented with the sweet smell of honeysuckle.  I thought it would be nice to imagine being in summer when it’s barely spring.

honeysucklecn1Notice the speckles?  They are from the Himalayan pink salt.  You may wonder if the salt would sting any cuts or rashes.  But I personally think the salt offers a healing component.  Just give it a try and see for yourself!

This soap also has skin loving oils such as avocado and rice bran.  And finally a good heaping of fine pink Himalayan salt.

I’ve always loved Himalayan salt, as I am slightly obsessed with the salt lamps.  Himalayan pink salt is mined from the pristine Himalayan mountain range.  It has 84 trace elements and iron.  Not only is it great for cooking, it’s also great for skincare.

There are no honeysuckle blossom in this soap.  Except for the lovely fragrance.

In many Asian countries, honeysuckle blossoms are made into tea.  It taste rather bland (but I still try to drink it on some occasion).

honeysuckle Here is pretty honeysuckle in bloom.  At the height of summer, the scent of these and jasmine fills the air.  These scents always bring me back to some fond memories. Photo and info from The Herb Store:

“As an antipyretic and diaphoretic, Honeysuckle has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as a bittersweet herb that clears heat and poisons from the system. By promoting perspiration, the herb cools the body, reduces fevers and yet again clears toxins from the body through the skin.”

As for the Pink Himalayan salt, they are usually made into bath scrubs such as this one from Hugo Naturals.  Photo from Amazon. I used fine Himalayan pink salt as it has a texture more suited for use in soaps.

This salt scrub made my Hugo Naturals is nice too, especially with the addition of grapefruit essential oil and other natural ingredients.

But using bath soaks or scrubs is a bit too much for me. Plus it gets too messy in the shower.  That’s really the main reason I like adding botanicals and clays into my soaps. With all the ingredient packed right in each bar, it’s much easier to use and enjoy.

Ingredients for the Himalayan Honeysuckle Handmade Soap:

Goat milk, oils of olive, rice, palm, and avocado.  Sodium hydroxide, Pink Himalayan Salt, and Honeysuckle fragrance.

Now available at my Etsy shop.

I look forward to using this, I like the Goat milk ingredient in handmade soap. I think when people think salt, it’s more of the one for food, but bath salt for soaking is also good for gardening aches and pains.

  2. I’ve heard of Epsom bath salt soaks for aches and pains, but never tried it. I agree, goat milk always make for great soap. I wish I could have a pet goat someday. :)

  3. [...] is the latest salt bar I’ve made since the Himalayan Honeysuckle. I love that soap as I always feel much more refreshed after each shower. Maybe it’s [...]
