I finally made my own face cream using carrot seed oil. As carrot seed oil helps tones the skin, reduces the formation of wrinkles, assist with cell growth and skin rejuvenation and help diminish scars.
The first batch I made did not turn out so good. So I remixed it with more oils and it’s much better now! It’s a small amount, but it should last me a couple of months. I put them in my old but clean beauty product jars and refrigerate.
The selection of oils I used are all good for the skin.
Apricot kernal oil is high in linoleic and oleic fatty acids. These are good for those with sensitive, dry, or mature skin. They absorb easily by the skin and doesn’t leave the skin feeling oily.
Avocado oil is also great for the skin, helps make the skin smooth and moisturized. It has vitamin E, A, D and E. It can also be used as a natural sunscreen.
And sunflower oil is rich in essential fatty acids. It is also easily absorbed by the skin with a light texture. Great for all skin types.
And of course the Gotu Kola and Carrot seed essential oil I’ve been raving about at Cambree Notes for some time too. Another great natural product your skin will love.
Recipe #1:
1 tsp Apricot Kernal Oil, 1 tsp Gotu Kola infused Sunflower oil, 3 tsp pure beeswax, 20 drops of carrot seed e.o, 10 drops of lemon e.o. The lemon oil is my natural preservative (antimicrobial).
The lotion was too thick due to the beeswax. And the carrot seed eo was overpowering.
For my revision, in addition to Recipe #1, I added the following ingredients:
1 oz Apricot Kernal oil
1 oz Sunflower oil
1 oz Gotu Kola infused Sunflower oil
1 oz avocado oil
1 oz Distilled water
3 drops of Peppermint e.o.
Mix all ingredients very well. The lotion will not separate (due to the beeswax). Pour into a clean and dry container.
The consistency is better now. The carrot seed e.o. is not as strong, or it may be that I’ve gotten used to it by now.
I just apply it to the freckles on my face before bedtime. I’ve used it for 1 week now and have no adverse reaction. So that is good news. But as for fading the freckles, that will take much longer to find out. But I think this will last me well into winter.
I did not use any chemical preservative in the mix, instead used lemon e.o. But refrigeration seem to keep the cream nice for longer.

Update 9/13/09: I still didn’t like the consistency of the cream. So I add about 1 tsp of Elarila shea butter. It’s much better now. But it does go on shiny and not matte like other creams. I’m just glad my skin is liking it.

I was wondering how all this is coming together, I see it now. I never knew that beauty products have a lot of natural ingredients. Most fading cream don’t recommend you to be out in the sun, but I’m sure your version is okay, big hat and sunglasses.
My older sister was using a fading cream product that she bought from a drug store, it worked but it left light patches on her face where she applied the cream, and she can’t be out in the sun. The last I heard was that my oldest sister read in a Thai magazine that it causes skin cancer, so she is not using it anymore. You’ve to be careful of what you use these days, they’re so many products out there. It’s great that you’ve enough knowledge to make it yourself, I feel lost just reading the ingredients.
Please keep me update on this, I like to know how well this works.

I think I know which skin fading cream your sister is using. I almost bought them until I found some bad reviews online. I have tried DHC “white cream” with more natural ingredients, but it didn’t seem to do much for me. I think some freckles are nice and aging gracefully is good too.
Yes, I will keep you posted on my little experiment. So far, so good.
