Every spring I always enjoy seeing flowers in bloom, especially the French lilac.  I found this growing along the fence of a cute little cottage in the neighborhood.

Most French lilac I’ve seen are purple, but this one is in pure white. The leaves are heart shaped and remind me of the Bodhi tree.

The flower is very fragrant, almost like perfume.  But unlike the sweet smell of honeysuckle, this scent is almost too strong for me.  But some people really enjoy this scent and it’s popular blend in perfumes.

Growing instructions from Gary’s Tree and Shrubs:

“French lilacs grow 12 feet high and at least 8 feet wide. Clusters of fragrant flowers appear in mid spring. Lilacs need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Prune immediately after flowering, as next years flowers are formed during the summer. Water during dry spells for the healthiest plants.

It may take 3-6 years for a lilac to become established after planting. They are worth the investment and can live over 300 years!”

I was thinking the same thing about the leaves, that it looks like a Bodhi leave.

It must be real pretty at the cute cottage and the aroma must be heavenly. I don’t mind the strong fragrance flower when it’s out in the open.

  2. Hi Nye,

I was thinking of taking a photo of the cottage too, but was afraid to intrude. One side of the yard had roses and other flowers too, it looked very welcoming.
