This is an updated post on Summer Sandals:

fitflops1I went out and got the Fit Flop at Macy’s. The strap choices were so limited - mostly gold and silver. It looked like they were marketed towards older women who hang out at South Beach (with lots of bling!). The one I got was more simple and casual.

I normally wear size 7, but one foot was too lose. I tried on the size 6 and it fit right to the tip of my heel.  The left size fit fine, but the right size was too tight.

So I decided on size 6 and took it home to try out. Walked around the (carpeted) house with it for a day. I liked that it was very light, very comfortable.

But the tightness of one of the foot strap and small foot bed was starting to bother me.  My right foot is bigger than my left foot. I think this is very common for most people.

I returned the size 6 (in good condition).  But I didn’t want to give up on these sandals since I really like them.  So I went online and found Bath & Body Works was having a “web exclusive” sale for Fit Flops. They call them “Spa Shoes” over there. The one I wanted was on sale for $39.75.

Get a workout while you walk! Every step you take in your FitFlops™ improves your core muscle strength, absorbs shock on your feet, knees and back, and strengthens and tones muscles in your feet, legs, buttocks, stomach and back. Half sexy streamlining, half muscle-toning trainer, the FitFlop is the shoe to have this summer. FitFlops load your leg muscles more so you get a workout while you walk. Every step you take while wearing FitFlops helps tone and trim your thighs, calves and glutes via a uniquely built multi-density midsole. In fact, they are engineered to absorb shock, lessen joint strain and recreate the gait of barefoot walking with a powerful new built-in micro-wobbleboard workout-enhancing effect. Available in sizes 5-11. The shoe has a generous foot bed and you may want to size down. - Bath & Body Works

Generous foot bed? I sized down and it was too small, almost tight.  Now am at my usual size and it is still loose.  But my friend advised to get the smaller size as it will stretch out and fit perfectly.  I am just flip flopping over these Fit Flops!  If only they had half sizes.

I was also able to find an additional discount code (9526) which was good for $10 off any $40 purchase. Since the sandals weren’t exactly $40, I add a small purchase of shampoo. Total of shoe and shampoo $32.75.  Tax $2.95, $7 shipping and total was $42.69. Not too bad!  Especially since sales tax in California is 10% now.  And at Macy’s they sold for $50 a pair, not including tax.

I don’t know how long the discount or web special will last. Possibly until the end of June ‘09. Discount code ended on June 14th.  Semi-annual sale going on until July 5th, 2009.

Updated 7/25/09:

I’ve had my sandals for a bit over 1 month and have to say I love them!  My only suggestion is to get 1 size smaller as the shoes will eventually stretch out.  I did start out with size 6 and it fit too perfect that I had to return it for size 7.  Now I wish I had stuck with size 6.  But this size is OK too.

I still can’t drive with sandals.  So what I do is take my driving shoes to drive and then change into sandals once I park.  I actually walked all around Costco and came home with no foot pain.  If anything I think I got a real workout while shopping.

Updated 9/05/09:

And now that I’ve worn my Fit Flop for several months, I felt like I chose the perfect size for my feet and that it was molded just for me. Now that summer is wrapping up, I am going to miss wearing them.  But they are definitely expensive for sandals.

    Wow, you’ve small feet, I wear a size 8.5.

My second sister would love this, she was looking at a pair of sandal that look similar to this the other day, and she loves to walk, great combination for her, I need to tell her about this.

  3. Hope your sister finds the size the fits her as they don’t have half sizes. And Bath & Body Works online store doesn’t even have size 6!

The downside to my size 7 is that this shoe size usually sell out first. Same thing with buying clothes, as the mediums are always sold out first too. :(
