Beauty, Health and Living

Beauty magazines are always talking about the latest skin cream that will take away the wrinkles or soothe the occasional skin problems. But little do we realize that taking supplements can also improve our skin from the inside out. A healthy diet can also do wonders for you skin. Since we don’t usually get our vitamins from the everyday food, it’s fine to add supplements.

A diet consisting of fish is very good. But watch out for the high levels of mercury, especially found in tuna. Wild salmon such as the one pictured here is one of the better pick.

Here is my list of what I think is the best skin care supplements to use daily.

Biosil - This one is my favorite and a favorite of many women in Belgium. I prefer to use the liquid form and drop into veggie capsules. biosil1

As we age, these three structural proteins: Collagen, Keratin and Elastin start to decline. They are known as your “Health and Beauty” proteins. Collagen can help hydrate your skin from the inside out. Keratin is beneficial for both your hair and nails by making it stronger. And Elastin preventing fine lines and wrinkles by giving your skin the ability to bounce back. The best supplement for this is Biosil, as it contains all these proteins.

Taking Biosil can also help increase bone mineral density. This is especially important for both young and older women alike. I have been taking this for almost 1 year. The first month that I took it, I noticed my nails were much stronger and growing faster. My hair was also very healthy and stronger too.

Fish Oil (Omega 3’s) - Many people may not be able to consume fish on a daily basis, so taking fish oil supplements are the next best thing. Dr. Weil from Times/CNN online states that it is even better then eating fish as the oils are purified to be free of mercury and organic toxins.

These are two family of essential fatty acids, the Omega 3’s and the Omega 6’s. Fats from each of these families are essential, as the body can convert one omega-3 to another omega-3, for example, but cannot create an omega-3 from omega-6 or saturated fats. Omega 3’s include, a-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), all of which are polyunsaturated. Fish oils are high in Omega 3’s.

Ascenta, the manufacturers of fish oil supplements has an informational page that suggest many helpful benefits of taking fish oils. The studies are promising, especially those that suffer from acne and premature aging of the skin. Ascenta noted, “Epidemiological studies show that communities which maintain a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids have lower rates of acne (Schaffer et al. 1989). In another study by Hitch and Greenberg (1961), it was discovered that the lowest rates of acne were among adolescents consuming the greatest amounts of fish and seafood.” Once in a while I’ll have broiled salmon or a tuna fish sandwich. But I usually get my fish oils from supplements. And Costco has the best prices, but they come in a huge bottle.

Other vitamins I would recommend is taking Vitamin C on a daily basis. I think it can also help fight off the common cold, but it’s also great for your skin as it boost collagen and elastin. DHC, one of my favorite Japanese skin care company also carries a line of supplements too. Amongst their list is royal jelly and echinacea. I have not tried either, but I think Royal Jelly would be amongst the best one for your skin.

Of course a well balanced diet and daily exercise can also do wonders for your skin and health too. Pictured here is of a young blemish free Japanese DHC model, holding one of their potions.
